Massey_CharlesFuneral services for Charles Ray Massey will be Thursday September 23, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow in the May Cemetery with Chaplin Dick Williams officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

He passed from this life to his heavenly home Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Brownwood Nursing and Rehab in Brownwood, Texas.

Charles was born November 5, 1944 to Herman and Rosa Davis Massey in Brownwood, Texas, where Charles was raised. He had an awesome love for football, fishing and hunting. He played football for Brownwood High School under Coach Gordon Wood on the 1960 sate championship team and until his graduation in 1963. His bass fishing and deer hunting resulted in tournament wins and trophies that he so proudly displayed in their home. Because of his passion for sports he had a tremendous knowledge of athletes, teams, coaches and statistics that he shared with those around him. Charles spent most of his adult life driving a truck for a living and was employed for many years with J,H, Huber and Trimac of Marble Falls, Texas. On May 25, 2002 he married the love of his life, Lillian Massey, at the Whoop & Holler Ranch in Mullin, Texas. Soon after, he was diagnosed with lung cancer that resulted in disability. He and Lillian returned to Brownwood where they made their home until the present.

Charles is survived by his wife Lillian; one daughter. Kimberly Grundy and husband Warren of Jacksonville, Arkansas; three step-daughters, Brenda Rogers and husband David of Marble Falls, Texas, Sheila Smith and husband James of Marble Falls, Texas, and Pamela Wier of Kingsland, Texas. One son Shawn Massey and wife Jennifer of Little Rock, Arkansas, one sister Martha Hicks and husband Butch of Brownwood. One uncle Willis Davis and wife Betty of Lake Jackson, Texas. Ten grandchildren: John Rogers, Ashley Payne, Jamie Smith, Clinton Smith, Rebecca Wier, Morgan Wier, Austin Grundy, Hanna Kuciejeski, Jacob Krickbaum, and Taylor Krickbaum; and six great-grandchildren: Colton, Luke, Carson, Kayden, Trenton, and Hannah(soon to arrive.) He was also survived by many friends and the loving staff of Brownwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father (Bonner Barker), and one granddaughter, Crystal Rogers.
