Funeral services for Charles Phillip O’Connell, 54, of Mathis, Texas, will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood. Services are under the direction of the Davis-Morris Funeral home.
Charles died Monday, June 8, 2010 in the MD Anderson Cancer Center after fighting a lengthy battle with Leukemia. Charles was born in Pecos, Texas on November 12, 1955 to Phillip Joseph and Mozelle Thigpen O’Connell. He was a graduate of Angelo State University and retired from the United States Navy in 1997. After his retirement from the Navy, he was employed by Archer-Daniel-Midland in Corpus Christie for the past ten years. Charles was a man of many skills and talents and never met a stranger. He was happiest when helping others, as he always did. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, mechanic, and cook who loved living near the water. He will be greatly missed and always remembered in the hearts of many.He leaves behind many friends and family members which included his wife, Diana O’Connell of Mathis, Texas; sons and daughter Phillip Joseph O’Connell and wife Bridgette, Jonathan Keith O’Connell and wife Jamie, and Jaclynn Lori Long and husband; grandsons Kyle Phillip and Joseph Charles O’Connell; sisters Ann Badgett, Beth and husband Mike Farrar, Gayle Hogans, Kathy and husband John Brown, and Peggy and husband James Rochier; nieces and nephews Michelle Griffin, Lisa Rich, David Farrar, Brian Farrar, Lori Miller, Danny Brown, Kathie Brown, and Christian Rochier; 8 great nieces and 3 great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Phillip Joseph O’Connell and Mozelle Thigpen O’Connell, and his only brother Danny Robert O’Connell.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia Foundation in his name.
