Heaven rejoices with the entrance of Charles Leonard Grossman. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family in Water Valley, Texas, on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the age of 66 years old. He valiantly fought a nine month battle against a Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumor.
Mr. Grossman was born on October 4, 1950, in Georgetown, Texas, to Richard William and Addie Mae (Stewart) Grossman. He grew up in Florence and Nolanville, Texas. He gave his life to Christ at a young age and was baptized on July 22, 1959, at the First Baptist Church of Nolanville.
Charles married the love of his life and best friend, Bonnie Jean Monroe, on October 24, 1970, in Valera, Texas. After moving to the San Angelo area, he began working for West Texas Utilities and GTE. In 1975, he surrendered his life to ministry. He was licensed to the Gospel Ministry at Trinity Baptist in San Angelo, Texas, on February 18, 1976, and ordained to preach the Gospel at Star Baptist Church in Star, Texas, on November 12, 1978.
He obtained a degree in Religious Education with a minor in English from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, in 1982. His graduate studies included Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth and Doctoral Studies from Trinity Theological Seminary, Newburg, Indiana.
Charles followed God’s call by preaching, building, and ministering in many Southern Baptist churches across Texas. He served on numerous committees and mission teams throughout Mexico, Brazil, Peru, across the United States, and even had the opportunity to preach on Mount Carmel. In later years, he transitioned to bi-vocational ministry and obtained his Registered Professional Appraiser License, serving Coryell and Tom Green Counties.
Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, walking, camping, shooting, golf, racquetball, and metal detecting. He had a love for the outdoors and nature. He was an avid storyteller and had a way of bringing a smile to everyone’s faces. He was a very humble man who always had time for other’s needs above his own.
Charles was always devoted and faithful to his family and raised them up in The Word. He and Bonnie raised three daughters, whom he loved dearly and called “Charlie’s Angels”.
Mr. Grossman was preceded in death by his parents, Richard William and Addie Mae Grossman, and brother, Jerry Dickinson. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jean (Monroe) Grossman; his daughters, Jennifer Glass and husband Philip of Water Valley, Texas; Michelle Grossman of Addison, Texas; Angela Everton and husband Wade of San Angelo, Texas; his beloved grandchildren, James, Hannah, and Jasper Glass and Addie Everton; and his siblings, Jackie (Dickinson) Vick and husband Jack, Johnny Dickinson and wife Betty, Richard Grossman, Barbara (Grossman) Weatherby; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Valera Baptist Church in Valera, Texas. Interment will follow at Valera Cemetery. Philip Glass, Wade Everton, Dewayne Monroe, Terry Monroe, Richard Weatherby, and Jimmy Vick will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers: Richard Grossman, Johnny Dickinson, Jon Vick, Steve Schroeter, and Danny Hurst.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Leslie ‘Medicus’ Hutchins, Dr. Cummings, Dr. Studt, and staff at Shannon Medical Center, Dr. Karen Fink and staff of Baylor University Medical Center, Hospice of San Angelo, and the widespread net of those who upheld them in prayer and support throughout this journey. The family also wishes to extend their sincere thanks to dear friends at Tom Green County Appraisal District.
