Charles Hale, age 86, of Brownwood passed away Friday December 31, 2010 in Brownwood. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held Monday, January 3, 2011 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
Charles was born April 30, 1924 to Floyd James and Adele Hale in Stacy, TX. He attended Texas A&M University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry. Charles proudly served his county in the United States Air Force during the Korean War where he received a Korean Service Metal with two Bronze Stars. He married his first wife Joy Ella Stephenson in 1952. Joy passed away in 1967. He married Mary Ann Fowler in Dumas, TX in June of 1973, on their way to Colorado. Charles worked as an Ag Teacher in Blanket, TX for some time. During his teaching career he was very involved in FFA and enjoyed teaching his students many things including calf roping. Charles then worked for the Texas Employment Commission for about twenty years before he retired. After retirement, Charles enjoyed cattle ranching. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Charles was a lifelong resident of the Brown County area. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Bangs I.S.D and FFA Chapter.
Mr. Hale was preceded in death by his first wife Joy Hale and his sister Shirley Floy Willis.
Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Hale of Brownwood, four children; Stephen Charles Hale and wife Michele of Whitehouse, TN., Edward L. Howell and wife Peggy of Austin, Jim Howell and wife Jami of Bangs, and Pricilla Barker and husband Steve of Dublin, TX, his brother Thomas James Hale of Lake Brownwood, two sisters; Elva Adele Hale of Ft. Worth and Elizabeth Ruth McSween and husband Clyde of Belleview, WA, eleven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
