Love_CharlesFuneral services for Charles Everett Love will be Tuesday July 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church of Early. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday at Heartland Funeral Home of Early from 6-7:30 PM. Mr. Love went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 20, 2011 in Early, Texas.

Charlie was the son of Oral Everett and Lydia Burkhead Love. He was born February 24, 1925 in Green Valley, Denton County, Texas. He was blessed to have been born into a loving family. His parents and only sister, Ann Sargent Atkins, preceded him in death.

He graduated from Denton High School in 1943. Shortly after graduation, he entered the United States Army. He received training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Camp Bouse, Arizona. At Camp Bouse, he attached to the ninth armored group which he trained as a secret outfit. The outfit was assigned to Europe. Charlie took part in the Battle of Ardenes, Rhineland, and the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded twice in the Battle of the Bulge. He sailed home for hospitalization on his twentieth birthday. Charlie was extremely proud and honored to have served his country.

In 1946, he enrolled in North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Education in 1950 and a Masters Degree of Education in 1952. Charlie taught in the Public Schools System for thirty-eight years. He had a sincere interest in his students, and his influence remained with them. He continued to have contact with several former students for all of his life. He taught in Alvord, Eldorado, and Seminole, Texas.

Charlie was married to Donna Jeanne Boddy on August 25, 1949 in the Little Chapel in the Woods in Denton, Texas. They shared nearly sixty-two happy years. They shared a love for teaching, camping, collecting antiques, garage sales, hunting and traveling to all fifty states and several foreign countries. Most of all, they enjoyed their two children, Deborah Ann Love Canfield and David Earl Love. They were truly blessed with five grandchildren, Breanna Canfield Quinn and her husband Michael, Brett Derrick Canfield, Elizabeth Love Lindamood and her husband Colin, Stephen Charles Love, and Sarah Anne Love. Their two great-granddaughters; Saoirse and Eibhleann Quinn are a special delight. He is also survived by one nephew Mark Sargent and one niece, Karen Sargent. As a family, they shared many happy times and treasured memories.

Charlie was a member of the Early First Baptist Church and the Thomas Sunday School Class. His church was special to him. He was a member of the American Legion Post 196. He served on the honor guard for many years. He belonged to Lions International for over fifty years and was an active member of the Early Lions Club. He had been a charter member of two clubs. He and Donna had attended thirteen Lions International Conventions. Charlie was a life member of the Texas State Teachers Association, and a life member of Texas State Retired Teachers. He belonged to the Brown County Retired Teachers Association. He belonged to the Seventh Armored Division and had attended several reunions. He enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for several years.
