Charles Clayton Barr went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 15, 2014. He was at home in Owens, Texas surrounded by his loved ones when he passed away after a short, difficult battle with cancer. Charles was born January 22, 1946 in Coleman. He touched many lives through his two careers, retiring from Frito Lay and as Grounds Supervisor for Howard Payne University.
Charles was the son of Oren and Frances Barr. He grew up in Cross Plains and graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1964. Charles was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart, Judy Cloud Barr; having recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Charles will forever be missed by his devoted family; his wife and daughters, Terri and husband, Toby Freyou of Grapevine and Stacey and husband, Robert Weber of Odessa; sister, Kay Foster of Abilene; mother and father-in-law, Wanda and Don Nelson of Early; sister-in-law, Bonnie Barr of Coleman; treasured grandchildren, Ryan and Amy Wood, Brett Freyou, Shelby Freyou, Justin and Brittani Weber, and Bailey Weber; great granddaughter, Olivia Wood, and several nieces and nephews.
Charles is preceded in death by his mother and father; father-in law, James Cloud; one brother, E.J. Barr; two brother-in-laws, E.W. Foster and Perry Cloud.
Charles was an active member of Early First Baptist Church and the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Coleman and Brownwood. During his time at Howard Payne, Charles was honored and recognized by his fellow employees as “Employee of the Year”. Charles volunteered his time at Good Samaritan Ministries and did mission work in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Charles touched the lives of many with his loving, kind, giving spirit and will be missed by countless friends and family who were blessed to know him.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life at a memorial service at Early First Baptist Church at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 17. Interment will follow at the Cross Plains Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the VIP fund at Early First Baptist Church or Good Samaritan Ministries in Brownwood.
