Charles “Charley” William Baker, age 73, of Bangs passed away Sunday night, March 17, 2019 at his home.

He was born August 16, 1945 in Orange, Texas the son of Charles Clyde Baker and Mattie Irene Petty Baker.  Following graduation from high school, he attended classes at the University of Texas at Arlington.  He married Joyce Jones in Brownwood on August 20, 1966.  They had previously lived in Victoria, Pasadena, Odessa and Texarkana prior to moving to Bangs.  Charley was a former manager of Beall’s Department Store, formerly employed by Harris Auto Supply, had worked for DuPont in Houston, and was the former owner of Charley’s General Store in Bands.   He also had worked for Superior Essex as a tool designer until his retirement. 

Charley loved to race cars and was a very dedicated “Bangs Dragons” fan.  He enjoyed all sports.  He was a member of the Bangs Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Bangs, three sons, Wes Baker and wife Kristal of Mineral Wells, Billy Baker and wife Lillian of Bangs, Jeff Baker and wife Christina of Bangs, two sisters, Linda Odom and Ginger Royston.  He also had eleven grandchildren, Nicole Tinney, Kaitlynn Mitchell, Riley Mitchell, Jason Lewis, Angela Alva, Breanna Baker, Dagan Baker, Shaleigh Baker, Emily Baker, Kayla Gay, Steven Beslanowitch as well as eight great-grandchildren, Brylynn Bazzell, Koralea Mitchell, Rigg Bazzell Kambreigh Tinney, Ariyis Alva, Damion Trejo, Marcel Lewis and Araya Lewis.  Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irene Baker, Sina Jordan Chandler, sisters, Barbara Ann Martin and Martha Elaine (Marty) Chandler, brother-in-law, Bobby Martin, and two brothers, Robert and Paul Chandler.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday in the Davis-Morris Chapel with Michael Light officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bangs Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
