Charles Billy Hogue, known professionally as C. B. and to family and friends as Bill was born to George Lee and Virgie Mae Hogue in Stanton, Texas on January 13, 1928. He was greeted by his Savior through death on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at his home.
C. B. (Bill) married Betty Jane Howard at Dublin, Texas August 31. 1949. The Hogues had four sons and one daughter: Robert, a medical doctor in Brownwood, TX; Randy, pastor; Rodney, pastor; Ronald, founder/director Nations Training Institute and pastor, and daughter Jana.
His education included Howard Payne University, Brownwood, TX, B. A., 1949 Southwestern Baptist Seminary, Fort Worth, TX, B. D./MDiv, 1952 and was awarded the D. D. Honorary Doctoral Degree by Howard Payne University, 1971 and the Doctor of Letters Honorary Degree from California Baptist University, Riverside, CA, 1986.
Hogue pastored churches in Texas and Oklahoma, and served various volunteer executive positions in associational, state, and national Southern Baptist conventions. Among these positions were associational moderators, Committees chair for Baptist General Convention of Texas, Board of Trustees for Howard Payne University, Oklahoma Baptist University, and California Baptist University.
He held many other state and national positions of ministry. His world involvement was extensive, including Member of the International Lausanne Committee for World Evangelism working with Billy Graham, and chairman of the North American LCWE. His involvement with Baptists of the world allowed him to be with the Baptist World Alliance as general council member, chair of several leading committees, and a Vice President of the prestigious Baptist W orId Alliance.
Hogue was involved with media through radio and television. As a lecturer in America in state Baptist conventions, retreats and on the national stage for Southern Baptists and other religious groups he was also used internationally in World congresses and interdenominational convocations.
Author of three major books, chapters in other books, and numerous articles in religious and professional journals; he was also the subject of a doctoral dissertation for a Doctor of Philosophy degree for a Southeastern Baptist Seminary student in Wake Forest, N. C. Affectionately known as Bill, he was a devoted family man, committed to his wife Betty, sons and daughter. They were primary in both his life and ministry. His mission in life was to bring the world to knowledge of Jesus Christ, strengthen His church, and build the Kingdom of God.
He is preceded in death by His parents, George and Virgie Hogue, six brothers; Aubrey, Travis, Grady, Virgil, Marvin, and Monroe, and a host of other relatives. Survivors are Dr. Robert L. Hogue (MD) and wife Judy of Brownwood, Texas, Rev. Randy N. Hogue and wife Faye pastor in Sacramento, California, Rev. Rodney H. Hogue and wife Mary pastor in Hayward, California, Rev. Ronald E. Hogue and wife Jaylyne pastor in Euless, Texas. Jana Tucker lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. Brother, T.J. of Corpus Christi. To this family were added fourteen grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and others through marriage and personal relationships of other family.
Funeral services will be held 11: 00 AM, Saturday, January 30 at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Skaggs officiating.
