The Texas Department of Public Safety honored Chaplain Dave Fair in a ceremony at the Brownwood Law Enforcement Center on Wednesday, May 7th.
Fair was honored for the many years of service he has provided to the Department of Public Safety’s Chaplain program. Chaplain Fair has spent many years serving the state troopers and others in the community and across the state of Texas.DPS Chaplain Donna Kleman stated that Fair was instrumental in helping establish the DPS Chaplain program. She explained that Fair always helped provide chaplain services anywhere he has been needed.
“David is one of the angels that helped me get the program started,” said Kleman who explained that Fair was instrumental in establishing the function of the program and protecting its integrity.
Kleman and Dr. Fran Douglas (Fair’s and Kleman’s DPS Supervisor) both thanked Fair for his service to DPS over the years. Kleman also thanked Fair’s wife Karen for the support and countless hours she allowed him to be away from home at all hours to take care of the needs of officers and citizens across the state. Mrs. Fair was presented a bouquet of flowers as a token of appreciation.
Dr. Douglas presented Fair with a plaque engraved with a message of appreciation for his years of loyal and dedicated service.
Fair stated that room was filled with friends that he has worked with over the years and how he appreciated each one.
“Everyone here, there’s a story that goes with our relationship and how we met,” said Fair. He expanded naming officers he had worked with through the Brownwood, Bangs and Early Police Departments, DPS Troopers, EMS workers and many more. One special event he mentioned was having the opportunity to marry friends Martin and Deedra Molotsky about 15 years ago.
Fair spoke of how he was diagnosed with Lymphoma and is now cancer free. While he was undergoing treatment and recovery, he stated that he had to “go under the radar,” and thanked everyone for their help during that time. He gave God the glory of his healing and then said a prayer for fellow officers, asking that God would continue to keep them safe while they do their work.
