The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce is bringing the Brownwood of yesterday to a whole new generation.
A new project called “Vintage Brownwood” will take old photographs held in the Chamber’s archives and display them on Facebook.
The first goal of this project is to make these old photos available to the public for their enjoyment through an easily accessible outlet. Since the landscape of Brownwood has changed over time, seeing these photos will allow long-time residents to reminisce while helping educate newer residents on the strides Brownwood has made through economic development.
The second goal is geared toward preservation. By converting the photos to a digital format, it will help keep them around for years to come.
“You can really appreciate how Brownwood has grown when looking back on many of these photos,” said Ray Tipton, Marketing Manager of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce. “I think current and former residents will really enjoy this project.”
The Chamber will display multiple photos each week on their Facebook fan page through the rest of the year. The photographs are from a variety of time periods going back as far as the 1940’s. Many of the photos are of buildings and places, but some include people who have been involved with Chamber events in the past.
“Some of the individuals in the photos are easily recognizable, but not all of them,” Tipton said. “We hope our Facebook fans can help identify some of them.”
