Carl James, age 93, of Coleman, died Friday, July 12, 2019, at his lake home at Lake Brownwood.

The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 15, at the Burkett Cemetery Pavilion with his daughter,  Mitchelle Barton, officiating.  Interment will follow in the Burkett Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

Carl James was born on March 24, 1926 in Talpa, Coleman County, Texas, a son of Wesley Flint James and Ruby McClure James.  He was reared in Coleman County, attending school at Centennial, where he graduated with honors in the Class of 1943.  He served in the United States Army Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge.  He graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor of science in animal husbandry and later received a Master’s degree in Education from Texas A & M University.  On May 3, 1952 he married Aileen Hunter in Coleman and she preceded him in death on March 31, 2016.  Mr. James was a school teacher at Knott and Lohn as well as Principal and Superintendent for Lohn ISD.  He also was the Director of Special Education for the Mason ISD.

After retiring, he and his wife moved to Coleman. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Men’s Downtown Sunday School Class.  He was a person who enjoyed life and lived every day as an adventure.  He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include five children, Carl Randall James and wife Shari of Abilene, Suzanne Jones and husband Charles of Woodson, Tommy Charles James and wife Kim of Grapevine, Monte Lynn James and wife Rebecca of Boerne, Deanna Mitchelle Barton and husband Scott of Ada, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, Stephanie Arredondo and husband Andy, Wesley James, Mitchell Jones and wife Robyn, Mitzi Nelson and husband Keith, Brigette Carruthers and husband Josh, Diana Kubena and husband Brian, Clint James and wife Hunter, Colby James, Jacob James and wife Bailey, Sarah Carlson, Amanda James, Noah James, Allie Barton; thirteen great-grandchildren, Dyllan Jones, Brenden Jones, Colt Nelson, Makenzi Nelson, Zoee Carruthers, Mason Kubena, Aiden Kubena, Kori James, Harrison James  Gage Carlson, Grady Carlson, Garner Carlson and Liliana;  two brothers, Weldon James of Oklahoma and Edward James and wife Betty of Waco; two sisters, Tommie Nixon of Abilene and Bobbie Hamm of Cedar Park.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Roy James and a sister, Eloise Miller.
