After what has been called a “violation of team policy”, the Cardinals top prospect Shelby Miller missed out on Double-A Springfield’s most recent road trip as he serves a team-imposed suspension.

Cardinals officials have not released any of the specifics reasons for Miller’s suspension; however, the the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported  the suspension stems from altercation at an apartment complex which involved alcohol.  Age may play a factor as Miller will turn 21 in October.

An article by D.J. Short on NBCSports.comstated that Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said that he doesn’t expect the suspension to be a long one and Miller will likely make another start before the minor league season comes to a close.

Miller has a 2.93 ERA and 152/47 K/BB ratio in 122 2/3 innings over 22 starts between High-A Palm Beach and Double-A Springfield this season. Baseball America recently ranked him

as the game’s No. 7 prospect on their midseason list.

Miller was selected as the Cardinals’2009 first round pick and is a hard-throwing right-hander from Brownwood, Texas.
