A mechanical problem caused a car to catch fire Tuesday evening about 6pm sparking a small grass fire off of County Road 180 about two miles west of Brownwood.
Reports state that the vehicle caught fire causing the driver to run off the road and the occupants to exit the vehicle safely. The passenger car then started a small grass fire where it came to a stop.
The Bangs Volunteer Fire Department and Brownwood Fire Department responded to the fire and contained it before it could reach a nearby residence.
