Three Brown County girls are seeking the crown of the Brown County Fair Association. Pictured above are (from left to right) Abby Day, Jacey Guest and Cheyenne Edwards.
These contestants will have to work hard to prove themselves on five levels: Membership Sales, Poise & Appearance, Personality, Public Speaking, and their participation in the Youth Fair which will be held January 6-11, 2014.
Membership sales by the Youth Fair Queen competition is the main fundraiser for the Brown County Fair Association and proceeds benefit the upkeep of facilities and enhancement of the premium sale.
Abby Day is the daughter of Jeff and Laurie Day of Brownwood and has a brother, Jeff Day. She is the granddaughter of Kenneth and Dianne Day and Weldon and Phyllis Mahan. Abby is a senior at Brownwood High School. She is representing Brownwood FFA, where she serves as vice president and has previously served as a district officer.
Abby competes in the skills, floriculture and livestock judging teams. She has been showing steers, goats, lambs and pigs in the Brown County Youth Fair since the 6th grade. Abby is also a member of the National Honor Society, has received the Magna Cum Laude award for the past three years, and has been accepted to Texas A&M University where begin studying biomedical sciences in the fall of 2014. She is the head of the spirit committee at Brownwood High. Abby is also a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.
Jacey Guest is the daughter of John and Jan Guest. She is a junior at Early High School. She is representing the Early FFA and has shown steers for nine years. Jacey has won Reserve Champion Angus Steer at San Antonio in 2007, Reserve Champion Steer at the Brown County Youth Fair in 2009 and Champion Shorthorn Steer at Fort Worth in 2010.
She is the Vice President of Early FFA and Sentinel for the Cross Timbers District. She competes in farm skills and has been to state competition two years ago. Jacey is also a member of Key Club and FCCLA. She has been on the honor society for three years in high school and was named AP Sophomore Student of the Year award. Jacey plans to attend college and pursue a career in Agriculture.
Cheyenne Edwards is the daughter of Deron Edwards and Shawnee Traweek of Bangs. She is the sister of Jaysen, Brian and Kodi Edwards. Her grandparents are Glenda and Larry Traweek of Bangs, Deral Edwards of Bangs, and Diana Edwards of Bastrop. She has been involved in the Brown County Youth Fair since 3rd grade showing lambs, steers, horses, and pigs, as well as participating in the foods and crafts division. In 2012 she won Champion Hampshire Pig.
She is a member of the May First Baptist Church. Cheyenne has participated in many activities including basketball, volleyball, softball, and track and field. Cheyenne represents the Bangs FFA and is on the livestock judging team which advanced to state. Upon graduation in 2015, she plans to pursue a career as a dental hygienist.
