PillowsBurlFuneral Services for Burl Alfred Pillows, age 83, of Lake Brownwood, Texas will be held 10 am Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Heartland Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Justice officiating.  Interment will follow at the Cox Cemetery in McCulloch County.  The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.   He passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Burl was born on November 9, 1927 in Trinity County, Texas to John Thomas and Cleo Mae Long Pillows.  He grew up in Groveton, Texas and joined the Merchant Marines at a young age until WW II was over.  He also served in the U.S. Army with the Fox Company, 40th  Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict.  On August 18, 1962 he married Oleta (Gilbreath) Penn in San Angelo, Texas. During his working career he worked in the oil field business.  He co-owned and operated C.J. Penn Truck Service in Midkiff, Texas with his wife.  They moved to Lake Brownwood in 1985.    Mr. Pillows was a past member of the Sprayberry Masonic Lodge # 1365 in Midkiff and the Shriners.

Survivors include:  Daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Ronnie Cloude of Maud, Texas and

JoAnne and Robert McLean of Brownwood, Texas; Grandchildren,  Danny Cloude, Renee Blisard, Craig Clements, Deborah Woodruff; Great Grandchildren,  Amber, Cara, Leslie, Mathew, Emily, Amy, Elsie, and Jacie,; Great Great Grandchildren: Bryson, J.J., Braydon, and Kaylee; Brothers, Clifford Pillows and wife Nancy Rose of Spring, Texas, Gandy Pillows and wife Lee of Clear Lake, Texas; and Numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife; and two brothers Earline Bell “Pete” Pillows and Arnold Elvin Pillows.
