Late Friday night, Brownwood Police officer Shade Tidwell responded to an alarm call for Texas Express convenience store, located in the 500 block of Center Ave. According to reports, someone had broken glass in the front of the store and gained access, stealing two 30-packs of beer. The store’s representative expressed that they did want to pursue charges against the responsible party.
After receiving information from a possible witness, Officer Tidwell then went to Main Liquor in the 500 block of Main Street and found more broken windows, a broken bottle of alcohol, and a beer consistent with the missing beer from Texas Express. Reportedly the manager of this store arrived on scene and when asked, stated he wanted to pursue charges against the responsible party. While talking with the manager, communications advised of another burglary in progress at Kwik Pantry in the 300 block of W. Commerce. Reports noted a witness had seen 2 white males breaking a window and then they left on foot toward Home Depot.
Reports state that after stopping at Kwik Pantry, Officer Tidwell then drove toward Home Depot when Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Sams told communications that he had located the suspects and was on a foot pursuit behind Chili’s. After the foot chase, officers arrested 22-year-old Jerry Allen of Brownwood. The second man identified as 34-year-old Sam Lockhart was also arrested after police report chasing him toward Bruner Auto Group, running into a pond, before taking him into custody.
Allen and Lockhart were arrested and charged with 3 counts each of Burglary of a Building and 1 count each of Evading Arrest/Search/Detention. They are each being held in Brown County Jail on $31,000 in bonds.
