Charles L. “Bud” Ross passed away Monday evening, January 6, 2014 at the age of 83. Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 9, 2014 at The Church of The Good Shepherd with The Very Reverend Andrew F.L. Bradley officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 7:30 at Heartland Funeral Home on Wednesday evening.
Bud was born in Gorman on February 7, 1930. He graduated from Brownwood High School in 1948. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in architectural engineering in 1952. Bud served as vice president and co-owner of Ross Company from 1954 until his retirement in 1998.
Bud was a very active member of his church and business community. He was president of the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Brownwood, as well as a charter member of the Contact Club. Bud also served as vice chairman of the Brown County Hospital Authority and as a board member of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Committee on Research, Engineering, and Standards. He served on the board of directors for Republic Bank and the Brown County Youth Fair was a member of the Brown County Tax Appraisal Review Board. He was a Shriner and a Mason. Bud served for many years on the vestry of The Church of The Good Shepherd.
Bud was an avid outdoorsman, including hunting, skeet shooting, and fishing. He was a member of the Grand Slam Club of the North American Sheep Hunters Association. He also enjoyed many fun years of coaching Little League baseball and had a true passion for Brownwood Lion football. His real love was for his children and grandchildren.
Bud is survived by Peggy, his wife of 49 years, his daughter, Shawna Dodson and husband Ray of Zephyr, his daughter, Dr. Marnie Ross and husband Dr. William Atlas of San Antonio, and a son, Cliff Ross of Brownwood. His grandchildren include Morgan Dodson, Evan Atlas, Aiden Atlas, and Landry Ross.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Bud’s memory to The Church of The Good Shepherd, 1800 Good Shepherd Drive, Brownwood, 76801.
