mainThe highly anticipated Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center is almost complete and is scheduled to be open for the 4th of July weekend according to Brownwood Parks and Recreation Director David Withers.

The new Family Aquatic Center will offer many great features including a slide tower with slide, interactive water geysers, tot slide, coolbrellas, pavilion, 4 lap lanes, diving board, zero entry beach, a current channel, and much more.  There is also a concession stand, bath house, and small lockers available for rent at 50 cents each.

Withers said they are putting on the finishing touches.  One attraction that needs to be finished is the installation of the net above the lily-pad crossing for the kids to hang on to.

“The net is scheduled to arrive and be installed Saturday morning,” Withers said. “We do have a back-up plan if it does not arrive for some reason.”

The city expects a large crowd for the opening day weekend.  Reports indicate that other area pools have been extra busy this year while residents have been waiting for the new facility to open.

“Wiggins pool has seen between 150-180 people each day,” Withers said.  “That is a pretty high number.”

Fees for the new aquatic center will be close to the same prices as those of the old Camp Bowie pool.   General admission will be $2 for 12 & under; $3 for 13 & over; seniors 60+ are $1.75.  Season passes for 12 swims will be $20 for 12 & under and $30 for 13 & over.  Rental of the pavilion will be $35 for 2 hrs.  Rental of pool after hours will be $250 (6:30-8:30 with a $100 deposit and $125/each extra hour with 8 lifeguards required).

The capacity of the new pool is 424 people and will require 8 life guards to be on duty.

Withers said that the official opening of the pool will be Saturday, July 3rd at 1pm.  The pool will also be open on Monday, July 5th for the extended holiday weekend.  The normal hours of operation for the pool will be Tuesday through Sunday 1pm-6pm.

Withers did note that the Wiggin pool will be closed for this weekend to put extra resources in place for the expected crowd at the new aquatic center.  Wiggins Pool will go back to normal operating hours next week.
