Sunday evening, June 5th Update: Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford announced that all streets in Brownwood are now open.  Riverside and Fabis Parks will be closed until clean-up is complete.

Flood Update – Sunday, June 5, 9:00 AM – Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford released the following update Sunday morning:

Water levels are subsiding, and City street crews are currently opening streets that are no longer flooded.

The following streets remain closed, and will likely be closed until tonight or tomorrow morning:

CC Woodson from Opal to Williams Ranch Rd.

Cordell low water crossing at Adams Branch

Vine Street Underpass

Clean up efforts of streets and parks will begin tomorrow and will take at least a week to complete.

The City of Brownwood appreciates the assistance of the local, regional and state law enforcement, emergency response and public safety entities throughout this extended flooding event.  Additional thanks is extended to the media for their partnership with the city to inform the public of updates and announcements.

This will be the last Press Release regarding the flooding event.

 

Flood Update – Saturday, June 4, 9:00 AM

The Pecan Bayou is currently at 15.25’ in town.  The National Weather Service now predicts the bayou to crest at 15.4’ this afternoon, and remain at this approximate level until Sunday night.  Lake Brownwood is currently at 1429.67’, and is falling.  No significant rain is expected.  TxDOT does not anticipate that Hwy. 377/67 will close.

The Brown County Fair Association has announced that the Rodeo Parade has been canceled this morning.  The Heartland Rod Run today has been moved to the Heartland Mall.

Friday, June 3rd Evening Update: Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford released the following update regarding flooding and road closures in Brownwood/Brown County.

The Emergency Operations Center remains at Level III, Increased Readiness, for additional flooding.  At this time, the National Weather Service is predicting the Pecan Bayou in town to rise to a flood level of 16’ by noon on Saturday, June 4, which about 10-12 inches higher than water levels experienced on Wednesday, June 1.  The Brown County Water Improvement District expects the lake to crest at 5’ over spillway.

Six high profile vehicles with the National Guard remain available, as well as boats with the Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The sand bag station is still open.

According to Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford, the Pecan Bayou water levels are projected to remain high through Monday.

The sand bag station is still open and available at the former Higginbotham’s location.

Thursday, June 2, 11:00 AM Update: Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford announced that at this time, no city streets are closed.   CC Woodson has been opened.

Due to continued rain, there could be street closures again.

Thursday, June 2, 9:00 AM Update: City Manager Emily Crawford released the following information regarding flooding in Brownwood.

The only street/park closures at this time are:

Please remember that although the lake level is going down and flood waters within the city and county are receding, the Pecan Bayou and other waterways are still very high.  The Pecan Bayou is running fast, which is dangerous.  Continue to avoid high water areas and obey barricades.

The City of Brownwood is extremely thankful to all the partnering entities who have assisted in the flooding event.

10:30 AM Update: Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford released the following information regarding flooding and road closures in Brownwood.

Due to continued rainfall, the National Weather Service is predicting the Pecan Bayou to remain at current levels until June 4th.  Updated street openings/closings are planned to be announced approximately every two hours, according to Crawford.

Wednesday 6:30 a.m. Update: Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford released the following information regarding flooding in Brownwood.

Water levels actually went down slightly in town overnight. The lake did not crest as high as expected. Highway 377/67 is still open.

Rain has begun over the watershed and in town. Continue to avoid high water areas and obey barricades.

Tuesday evening Update: Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford released the following information regarding flooding and road closures.

The National Weather Service is now predicting one quarter to an inch of rain over the watershed tonight. The lake level is currently 1429.74’ and is expected to crest late tonight at about 1431.5’.

Weaver Apartments voluntarily evacuated. Market Place Apartments are surrounded by high water and are not accessible with personal vehicles. Should evacuated residents require sheltering, please call 325-643-3793 or 325-200-5243 for more information.

High Profile Vehicles are staged and ready to be deployed.

The Emergency Operations Center will be open all night to monitor water levels. To report flooding or high water overnight, call 325-646-2525.

2:25 PM Update: Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford released the following update regarding flooding due to the rise of the Pecan Bayou and continued rainfall.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that the Pecan Bayou is still rising in Brownwood. Rainfall projections for the watershed tonight are up to 1 1/2 inches. This amount of rain will increase lake levels, which will continue to flow into the Pecan Bayou.

The sand bag station remains open at the former Higginbotham’s location at 1500 Center Ave.

High Profile Vehicles have been mobilized with crews, should they be needed. Emergency services personnel will continue to monitor lake and river levels through the night.

Businesses and property owners in high water areas are encouraged to prepare for additional high water.

Highway 377/67 remains open. According to TxDOT, when water begins to lap over the bridges, they will close the road and divert traffic. A traffic plan will be issued at the announcement of closures.

Original article: Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford released the following information regarding flooding in the Brownwood area.

At 8:45 AM, the National Weather Service predicted that the lake may rise to 1430.2’ today. They are forecasting 1/2 – 1 inch of rain on the watershed over the next few days. The lake level could go up to 1430.4 with this additional rainfall.

The Pecan Bayou has crested at Cross Cut north of the lake, but continues to rise slowly in Brownwood.

TxDOT is watching the bridge on Hwy. 377/67 over the Pecan Bayou, and at this time water is flowing well under the bridge.
