The Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes recently announced additions to the organization’s annual all-star events, one of which will be boys’ basketball, to be held in Brownwood, along with the 5th annual all-star girls’ basketball game. Another sport, volleyball will also be added to the all-star event slate this summer according to FCA officials.
These all-star boys and girls basketball games are scheduled to be held at the Brownwood Coliseum on Thursday, June 6th. The girls will play at 6:00 p.m. followed by the boys’ game at 8:00 p.m.
Coaching the girls’ basketball South team will be Early High School Head Coach, Kristi Sandoval. Sandoval is a Tarleton State University graduate. Following TSU, she began as the freshman coach before coaching JV the next year. Following three years of JV she has now been the head coach for 3 years. During Kristi’s playing career she was a 3A state champ in 1998, All-State Team 3 years, and District and Regional Champ all 4 years in Shot Put 1996-1999. Coach Sandoval’s coaching career has seen her named the TGCA assistant coach of the year, District Champs 2011-2012, and was the TGCA assistant coach of the All-Star team in 2006.
The FCA all-star Volleyball game will take place at noon on Saturday, June 8th, 2013 at Abilene Christian University’s Moody Coliseum. The 14th Annual Myrle Greathouse All-Star Classic Football Game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8th at Shotwell Stadium.
Brownwood High School Head Volleyball Coach Jackie Lang will be the assistant coach of the South’s volleyball team. Lang and her husband Ty both coach and teach at Brownwood High School. She is a graduate of Valley City State University in North Dakota with a BS in History Education. She played 3 years of volleyball – attaining both an academic and athletic scholarship. She began coaching volleyball in the spring of 2006, when she returned to Texas for student teaching. She was the assistant coach for Texas Juniors DFW’s 18 club team. When school began in the fall she coached at Colleyville-Heritage High School. The next two years she coached at Coppell High School – as well as Texas Juniors DFW (head 13.2 coach) and 900 Volleyball (asst. 17 coach). She and Ty moved to Brownwood and she coached freshmen for one year prior to becoming the head volleyball coach. This was her third season as head coach in Brownwood. In Brownwood, Lang’s teams have made the playoffs 2 of the 3 years she been coaching.
In 2014, additions of all-star baseball and soft ball games will be held in San Angelo.
