Storm_2010The Brownwood Storm won the Abilene Lulac Softball Tournament this past weekend and are eyeing another successful tournament coming up.

The Storm went undefeated during pool play at the Lulac tournament defeating the Albany Sharks 5-1 and the Wylie Dynamite 7-2. The Storm stumbled in their first bracket game when they faced the Wylie Dynamite again falling 3-1.

Sunday morning the Storm began the day knowing one more loss and they were headed home, but that didn’t happen and they weren’t headed home until the last run was scored nearly 10hrs later.

Game 1 Sunday the Storm faced San Angelo Thunder defeating them 13-0 followed up by two more consecutive shutouts defeating the West Texas Threat 12-0 and the Knox City Drillers 7-0. The Storm gave up their first run in game 4 Sunday when an Abilene Swat base runner crossed the plate, but that would be the only run allowed that game as the Storm fought back scoring 14 runs of their own. Game 5 found all other ball parks empty as the Storm once again faced the Wylie Dynamite, knowing that winning this one only meant that they would have to turn around and face the Dynamite one more time in the “IF Game”. Game 5 ended as all others had Sunday with the Storm downing the Dynamite 4-2.

The Storm girls found themselves in the championship game once again having come in 2nd place in all but one of the tournaments that they have played in this year. This time would be the time that the Storm would get the “Big” trophy as they defeated the Wylie Dynamite in a come from behind extra innings win. The Storm started the championship game on the defensive as the Dynamite came out swinging and scoring going up 4-1 before the Storm bats came back to life and brought the game to a 4-4 tie in their last at bat. Extra innings started with the Dynamite scoring once making the score 5-4, but the one run would not be enough as the Storm scored twice ending the game with a 6-5 championship.

The Storm found that outstanding defensive play, pitching, and an unstoppable offense is the perfect combination to win it all. Totals runs for the tournament were dominating as the Storm outscored their opponents 69-14.

The Storm will be back in Abilene this weekend as they play in the Beat The Heat Tournament starting Saturday morning August 14.
