sweetwaterarticlepicAlthough it was a cold Friday night, the Lions were “fired up” and ready to fight for a victory against Sweetwater in the “Mustang Bowl”

Sweetwater won the coin toss and decided to receive.  After a few unsuccessful plays, the Mustangs go for it on 4th & 5 with Logan Gough for the Lions nearly intercepting a pass.

Brownwood’s first offensive drive consisted of 5 plays and 68 yards ending with QB Vance McShan connecting in the end zone to Jaxon Shipley.  Dillon Ellis kicked the point after.

In Sweetwater’s next possession and after a few more failed attempts to move the ball down the field, it was 3rd down and Sweetwater was stopped at the line of scrimmage by Levi Westerman, knocking the ball loose.  Joseph Henry makes the fumble recovery, giving the Lions the ball on the 50 yard line.

After moving the ball down the field to the 3 yard line, McShan gets the ball to Derek Longoria who finds a big hole in the defense, rushing untouched to make his 3rd touchdown of the year and to end the first quarter of the game.

In the first play of the second quarter, Sweetwater had the ball on 2nd and goal when Tyler Harth hits the Mustang quarterback knocking the ball loose. Caden Ellis picks it up and makes a 76 yard defensive touchdown run.

With 3 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, McShan connects to Caden Johnson at the 25 yard line for a 34 yard gain.  McShan then hands off to Stehl Ratliff who makes his 10th touchdown of the season.  Score at the half was 28-0.

In the 3rd quarter with 8 minutes left, McShan passes to Shipley who makes a catch in the end zone.  Soon after, McShan makes another pass to Longoria for the TD.

The Lions coast through the 4th quarter as the defense holds the Mustangs to help bring home the win with the final score of 42-0.

Next week, the Lions will face Snyder at home which will determine who moves on to playoffs
