The Texas State Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax revenue information and allocations for the month of June 2010 for cities across the state. These sales tax numbers reflect taxes collected in April 2010.
Statewide, Combs will deliver June sales tax allocations of $292.6 million to Texas cities, down 1.5 percent compared to June 2009. So far this calendar year, city sales tax allocations are down 4 percent compared to the same time period last year.
Locally, all Brown County cities were down for this month’s allocations compared to June 2009. Year-to-date, Brownwood, Bangs, and Blanket are all in the red, but Early is less than 1% up in sales tax collections compared to 2009.
The City of Brownwood will be working on their 2010-2011 budget through the summer and city officials say that departments are looking for ways to cut expenses to help compensate for the expected revenue shortfall.
