Texas Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers for the month of April reporting the seventh positive month in a row for Brownwood sales tax collections.
Brownwood’s sales tax allocations for April 2011 are up 4.52% over the same month last year. This takes the city to a more than 5% increase on the year.
Early saw a drop in their April allocations, down almost 11% on the month and down 6.25% year-to-date. Both Bangs and Blanket collections were slightly up for April.
Combs will send April sales tax allocations of $279.4 million to Texas cities, up 5.2 percent compared to April 2010. Calendar year-to-date, city sales tax allocations are running 6.7 percent higher than last year.
“State sales tax revenue has now increased for 12 straight months,” said Combs. “Strong consumer and business spending helped increase revenue in large sectors of the economy such as retail, manufacturing and the oil and gas industry.”
April payments made to local governments represent sales that occurred in February.
