HouseFinishedOrganizers of this year’s Brownwood Reunion Celebration Hands on a House announced the annual food drive contest that will be held within the competition to win the Texas Cabin.

There will be a contestant’s food drive which allows the public to come and “vote” for their favorite Hands-on-a-House contestant by bringing non-perishable food items to the cabin, starting at 6:00 PM Friday, and going until 5 PM Saturday.  The contestant with the most food items donated by 5:00 PM Saturday evening will win a one hour rest break.

All donations benefit Good Samaritan Ministries and St. John’s Food Pantry.  Organizers ask that those donating do not bring perishable or expired items.

Simply bring food items to the food drive tent and collection table – located on the right side of the Hands-on-a-House cabin at the corner of Carnegie and Adams Street.   The food drive will continue to collect donations for a few more hours on Saturday, possibly even for a 2nd prize, a 30 minute break.  The main part of the contest will end at 5:00 pm Saturday.

Key Club students from Brownwood and Early High Schools will be assisting at the food drive tent, in counting cans and loading them into trailers.  Early Trailer Sales has loaned Hands on a House organizers two enclosed trailers for storage and delivery of donations to these two charities.  Organizers and sponsors offer a big “thank you” to Early Trailer Sales and to Key Club members for helping make this event such a huge success.

Hands on a House is also sponsoring School Food Drives at Brownwood ISD elementary and middle schools.  To kick start the 2013 Food Drive, for the 3rd year straight these schools have been competing to win a pizza party.  At each school participating, the class that raises the most items will win a pizza party.

Collections from schools are being picked up Thursday and taken to the cabin and contest site.  Winners of the school food drives will be announced on Friday.
