Two people were arrested Monday night after police found them in possession of drugs according to Brownwood Police Reports.
34-year-old Theron Dale Hutchens and 36-year-old Jeri Lynn Smith were both arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Drug Free Zone.
Police reports state that officers conducted a traffic stop on Hutchens and Smith for a signal violation. Officers recognized both individuals as “know narcotic users” the report states and police asked for permission to search the vehicle. After receiving the search consent, police searched the vehicle and found a metal pipe residue, three baggie containing methamphetamine, hypodermic needles, and a few other related items, the report indicates.
The location of the stop was near the Girl Scouts building, the report states, which added the drug free zone aspect to the charge. Both Hutchens and Smith were taken to Brown County Jail.
The police report states that Hutchens’ child was in the care at the time of the stop and was released to a family member upon his request.

Brownwood police investigated a broken window at Coggin Elementary School just before 3am on Monday morning. Police discovered the broken window in the building while on patrol. A rock was found on the floor of the room where the window was located police reports state. Officers searched the school, but no entry appeared to have been made.
