Brownwood Police Reports: Teen Charged in Storage Building Burglaries

A teenage suspect was arrested on Monday in connection to a recent burglary spree of mini-storage warehouses in Brownwood.  18-year-old Efrian Castillo was arrested and charged with the multiple burglaries.  

Brownwood Police reports indicate that officers were originally called to an apartment regarding a domestic dispute between Castillo and his mother.   The report states that the argument started when Castillo’s mother discovered what she believed was stolen property among her son’s belongings.   When police arrived, Castillo had his belongings sitting next to the front porch of the residence as he was preparing to leave. 

After questioning the suspect and his mother, Castillo consented to a search of his belongings where police found numerous items in several bags including a pair of bolt cutters.  Initially, Castillo told police that he had purchased all of the items at garage sales around town, but upon further questioning, he admitted that he had stolen  the items from several storage buildings in Brownwood the police report states.

The report also states that Castillo told police that he burglarized mini-storages in the 3600 block of Austin Avenue and the 2800 block of 14^th Street and used the bolt cutters to cut the locks off of various units.  He also told police that he has stolen several firearms from some of the storage units and sold them.  The report also indicates that items were found that had been reported stolen from storage units in the 2000 block of Brady Avenue recently.

Castillo is being held in Brown County Jail on three counts of Burglary of a Building.

*Thursday, April 22 – Brownwood police responded to the hit and run of a vehicle on Durham.   A witness to the accident reported seeing an SUV hitting its brakes multiple times, striking the left side of the vehicle, then speeding up and turning onto Slayden.  According to the report, the victim’s car showed evidence of being struck from the back continuing to the front of the vehicle.  The front mirror was knocked off and lying broken in the road.  There were no arrests or suspects at this time.

*Monday, April 26, 5:30pm – An abandoned vehicle was reported to be in the roadway on Indian Creek at the intersection of Countryside.  An officer responded and found the car to be locked with its windows rolled up.  There were blankets in the back seat but no other items to confirm ownership nor the reason why the car was abandoned.  When the registered owners could not be contacted, the car was impounded.

*Monday, April 26, 7:48pm –  Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 700 block of W. Austin Avenue in reference of an intoxicated male walking in and out of traffic.  When the officer arrived, he found a man matching the description of the suspect standing in front of the Brownwood fire station’s door.  The officer made contact with the man who was identified as 34-year-old David Tucknott, who according to reports was intoxicated.  He was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

*Monday, April 26, 9:48pm –  BPD was called to 500 block of W. Commerce (7-11) in regards of a hit and run of a gas pump after the clerk witnessed a disturbance in the parking lot.  A customer of the convenience store who was among the group was seen getting into his pick-up, backing up at a high rate of speed and striking the #1 gas pump, and leaving the scene.  The clerk asked the other men involved in this disturbance, to leave the premises.  Police reports state that the responding officer heard dispatch talking with a man with the same name as the suspect and asked them to find his location, which was later found to be at a local apartment complex.  Upon arriving at the scene, the officer met with the male who was reportedly responsible for the hit and run. The suspect claimed to have gotten into his truck and in his haste to leave the store, hit something he thought was a concrete barrier.  He told police that he did not intend to cause the damage to the pump and would gladly pay for any damages he had caused.  The 7-11 was contacted and informed of the suspect’s willingness to pay of the damages.  At the time of the report, no charges had been filed.
