Brownwood Police make a couple of arrests and investigate a hit and run accident.

Drug Paraphernalia Arrest Along With Warrants

In a report issued by Brownwood Police Officer Kilburn, it states that he was attempting to serve warrants for an individual’s arrest on Wednesday, September 23rd at a residence on Clear Creek Drive.  The reports states that Kilburn noticed the front door to the residence open when he pulled up and then the door began to close.  Kilburn made an order for those inside to not close the door.  The report goes on to say that Officer Kilburn drew his weapon and went around to the back of the residence.  There he saw a man identified as Cody Jobe walking towards him as Jobe dropped something on the ground.  The report says that officer Kilburn recognized Jobe as the one being sought on the warrants and Kilburn arrested, handcuffed, and read him his rights.  The report says that Kilburn located a glass pipe on the ground where Jobe dropped something, and this pipe is the type commonly used to smoke methamphetamine.  Jobe was taken to Brown County Jail on the warrants along with a new charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hit And Run In The Storm

On Monday evening Brownwood Police received a call regarding a possible hit and run.  Officer Trey Weathermon responded to the call.  The report submitted by Weathermon says a woman reported that another vehicle struck the left side of her vehicle near the 900 block of W. Austin Ave and drove away.  The report states that a witness had just reported the incident to the police department and advised that the suspect vehicle was parked nearby.

Officer Weathermon located the suspect vehicle that appeared to have been abandoned with damage constant to the complainants story.  A window of the suspect’s vehicle was rolled down and police noted that this was suspicious since a thunderstorm just hit the area.  Weathermon’s reports states that he believes the driver fled and did not take the time to roll the window back up.  The vehicle was towed and taken in as evidence.

The next afternoon, a man claiming to be the owner of the vehicle arrived at the Law Enforcement Center wanting to speak with officer Weathermon.  The report states that Weathermon made contact with the vehicle’s owner.  According to the report, the man said that  he “Rubbed sides with another car.”  He also stated that he hit a curb and blew out a tire.  The report states that the owner of the vehicle asked his passenger where the other vehicle went after the collision and the passenger said that it had left.  They said that they parked the vehicle out of the way where it was found by police and attempted to locate the other vehicle on foot.  They said that they were unable to locate it and the suspect walked home.  Police note that heavy rain and frequent lighting were occurring at this time.

Police are now seeking an arrest warrant issued for the suspect vehicle owner for fleeing the scene of an accident.

Brookshires Shoplifting

On Wednesday afternoon Brownwood police officer Sky Self was called regarding a shoplifting at Brookshires Grocery.  Self’s report says that he met the suspect identified as Jeri Lynn Smith nearby.  Self told Smith that she was suspected in stealing grocery items and fleeing the scene.  Smith denied stealing repeatedly and said she purchased items from the store.  Self’s report said that he asked her for the receipt, but Smith said that she gave it to a friend who was with her.  The report also says that a witness stated that Smith met a man at a nearby location and unloaded several items into a satchel.

Smith had a bag with several grocery items from the store but continued to claim that she purchased them.  Self’s report states that after a long conversation and several changed stories, he and Smith went back to Brookshires to have the items scanned to verify if they had been paid for or not.  Inside the store it was confirmed that the items had not been paid for and should have still be in store inventory.

The report states that at that time Smith said that the man she met gave her the items outside the store.  Officer Self arrested Smith for possession of stolen property and taken to Brown County Jail.
