K-9 Assists In Drug Arrest
Early afternoon on Tuesday, officer Chris Hill made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1100 block of Austin Avenue for expired registration. In a police report, Hill states that he observed the driver, 23-year-old Brandon Nicholas Martinez, acting nervous and Martinez indicated that he was in a hurry to meet a friend for lunch.
Hill asked Martinez for consent to search his vehicle, but Martinez said that he was did not have time for a search according to reports. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office assisted by sending their K-9 unit to the scene. The Narcotic Detection K-9 went around the vehicle where he had a positive alert for drugs according to reports.
A glass pipe & bag of a green substance believed to be marijuana was recovered from the vehicle. Martinez was arrested for Possession of Marijuana in a drug free zone since it was within 1000 feet of the Howard Payne University campus.
Shoplifter Tries To Flee Police
On Tuesday, police officers responded to Brookshires grocery store regarding a possible theft of medication. A police report states that officers found two men nearby as described by store employees. The men identified as 19-year-old Cecil Perrish of Brownwood and 18-year-old Joseph Ray Burns of Brownwood were told to place their hands on the front of a patrol car according to reports. Perrish complied, but Burns told the officer “no” and began to run. After a short foot chase, the suspect was caught according to police reports.
Reports also indicate that police recovered several dozen pills from the suspects, and Brookshires employees provided empty packages of the medicine that was found in the restroom.
Burns was arrested for Theft, Criminal Trespass, and Evading Arrest. Perrish was arrested for Theft.
Arrests Made For Stolen Tools
On Monday afternoon, Brownwood Police Officer Chris Hill was dispatched to a pawn shop in the 200 block of Commerce regarding a theft. Hill’s report states that a man at the location reported that while he was inside the pawn shop doing some electrical work, someone stole several tools from his work truck. The stolen tools were valued at about $1500.
Two suspects were arrested later in the day on the suspected theft identified as Alan Maxey and Terrance Maxey.
911 Hang Up
On Monday night, Brownwood Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 block of Brady Ave regarding a 911 hang up.
According to police reports, officers heard shouting coming from the residence when they arrived. Police questioned the male occupant identified as 52-year-old Ronald Earl Coleman, regarding what was going on. Reports state that Coleman was yelling at the other occupant of the residence and using profanity while police tried to question him. Police ordered Colemen to stop yelling and using profanity, but he ignored the commands according to police records.
Officers told Coleman that he was under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. The report states that as police put Coleman’s hands behind his back, he jerked both arms away and turned towards officers in an aggressive manner. Officer Trey Weathermon took Coleman to the ground with a leg sweep. Coleman was arrested with the added charge of Resisting Arrest.
Other Arrests and Calls
–Late Monday night, officer Cantu made a traffic stop on a vehicle for not having headlights on in the 400 block of E Commerce. 46-year-old Eddrick Bailey was arrested when Cantu discovered that Bailey was driving with a suspended license.
–On Monday, police were called to the 700 block of Avenue D regarding a possible stolen cell phone.
