According to Brownwood Police, on Saturday night at approximately 8:10pm, an officer was dispatched to the 3200 block of Stephen F. Austin in reference to a stabbing. Reportedly a witness spoke with the reporting officer about a fight that occurred in her neighbor’s front yard.
According to reports, the officer questioned the residents where the incident occurred and found that a female occupant’s mother and step-father had come over and wanted to take the couple’s children. It was reported that because the suspects were apparently intoxicated, the couple refused to let their children go. The woman’s step-father then stated that he had a gun, and pulled out a pocket knife.
Reports stated that when the children’s father attempted to close the front door, the suspect stabbed him in his left bicep. The father then tried to get the knife from the suspect, and a fight ensued in the front yard. It was reported that during this fight, the man also received a cut on his right pointer finger. The injured man did not get a good look at the knife but reported it to have been about 4 inches long. The woman’s mother and step-father then left the scene.
Reports further noted that the mother of the children witnessed the stabbing to have occurred on the porch, then the fight having moved to the front yard. She also noted having seen the step-father stab the victim.
A witness also verified the incident, having been alerted by her dogs’ barking. She looked out and heard a woman state, “No you’re not getting the kids because you’re drinking.” The witness reported seeing two males fighting and then one male leaving in a car. Later the suspect reportedly returned to the scene, yelling, “C’mon come out here” and holding his arms in a threatening manner. The witness said she warned the man that she was going to call the police and for him to leave the area.
Police attempted to reach the suspects at their apartment. No one would answer the door; however, police were able to verify that the hood of the suspect’s car was still warm and the car had been recently driven. At this time the incident is being further investigated and no arrests have been made.
