On Sunday, October 4th Brownwood Police officer Brandon Arnold was called to the 3500 block of 2nd Street regarding a child who had been riding a bicycle and was run off the road by a vehicle. A police report states that while the child was riding, a vehicle came up behind the child and began began following. The child told police that the vehicle kept getting closer until the child fell off the bike attempting to get out of the way.
Brownwood Police officer Bode who was off duty at the time and lives in the area noticed the vehicle after a passenger inside threw a beer can out of the window. According to the police report, Bode followed the suspect vehicle and observed it drive at a high rate of speed ignoring several stop signs.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver, 23-year-old Thomas James Coleman Jr. was arrested for reckless driving and taken to Brown County Jail.
In other unrelated cases:
-Brownwood Police Officer Danny Hutchins made contact with a suspicious male on Friday that was pushing a red go-cart near Ave B and Durham. Police reports indicate that when officer Hutchins made contact with the man, identified as 20-year-old Seaver Ray Roper, Jr, he noticed that Roper’s speech was heavily slurred and was able to smell a very strong odor of alcoholic beverage from is body and breath. Roper was placed under arrest for public intoxication and taken to Brown County Jail
-On Monday, September 28th, Police responded to a report of a burglary of a storage building on Coleman Street where the lock of the storage unit had been cut. Upon investigating, police discovered multiple units had locks cut as well. Police notified the storage facility owners.
-On Friday, officer Brandon Arnold made a traffic stop on a person driving with their headlights off at night. According to police reports, Arnold detected a strong odor of alcohol on the driver identified as 45-year-old David Lindsey of Brownwood. Arnold conducted the Standardized Field Sobriety Tasks on Lindsey. He was arrested for DWI and taken to the Brown County Jail.
-On Sunday, October 4th officer Slayton was making an arrest of 34-year-old John Angus McDonald of Early on an outstanding warrant. A police report states that officer Slayton observed in plain view a light bulb that had been altered in a fashion that is commonly used to smoke methamphetamine. McDonald was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia in addition to the warrant.
-On Sunday, police were called regarding a person who had been assaulted by a family member. Upon further investigation, officer Slayton arrested 48-year-old Jack Edmond Coffey of Brownwood. Coffey is being held in the Brown County Jail on charges of Kidnapping, Unlawful restraint, and Assault Family Violence.
-On Saturday, Brownwood Police arrested 49-year-old Renell Raphael Riley of Brownwood on a tip for outstanding warrants. Police reports indicate that when they made contact and arrested Riley he reported that the person he was staying with has stolen money from his wallet and wanted to file a report.
-Police arrested 28-year-old Cody Dwayne Allen of Bangs near the 900 block of Riverside Dr on Sunday. The police report states that Allen quickly accelerated and due to the wet road conditions, the vehicle lost traction and began to fishtail. The report also says that 30-40 pedestrians were adjacent to the roadway. He was charged with reckless driving.
-Police also arrested 22-year-old Jarod Scott Cyr of Brownwood for DWI on Sunday after administering the Standardized Field Sobriety Tasks.
