The extended weekend New Year holiday kept Brownwood Police busy this year.  The following unrelated incidences are from reports released by Brownwood police and Brown County Jail Records.

Hit and Run of Pedestrian

On Thursday morning, Brownwood Police responded to a pedestrian being struck by a car turning out of the CVS parking lot.  The victim stated that he was crossing the street in the 1000 block of Coggin, when the car turning struck his walker and his left hip.  The make and model of the vehicle was unknown.  The victim’s wife had witnessed the accident and unsuccessfully tried to warn her husband of the oncoming vehicle.  She was unable to give a description other than that the vehicle was red.  She also stated that the driver may not have known that they struck the victim.  The right side of the vehicle close to the head lamp was the area that reportedly hit the man.  The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

The responding officer investigated CVS video footage of the parking lot during 10:00-11:00 am, the reported time of the accident and observed a red vehicle pull through the pharmacy drop off.

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

On Saturday, a Brownwood officer on patrol noted a Chevy truck in the 1000 block of Coggin that had an obstructed license plate.   The license was unable to be read due to mud.  The occupants were identified to dispatch, who advised that one passenger, Cody Thompson, 18 of Austin, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Coryell County, Possession of Marijuana less than 2 oz.  Thompson was placed under arrest for the warrant.  While searching Thompson in regards to the arrest, the officer located a small nylon zip pouch in the front of Thompson’s jeans.  Upon opening the pouch, a silver marijuana pipe and a small clear bag containing less than 2 oz of marijuana was revealed.   Thompson was also charged with possession of less than 2 oz of marijuana.

An officer on patrol Sunday noted a vehicle that failed to signal a turn.  Police reports state that when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver continued on for a few blocks, reportedly attempting to evade arrest, when he hit a trash can on the side of the road.  When the officer approached the car, the occupant, 25-year-old Brian Christopher Boyd, smelled of marijuana according to the police report.  The man was arrested for evading arrest and when searched in regards to the arrest, it was found that he had bits of marijuana in his mouth, evident that he was trying to swallow it before being stopped, and another bag with bits of marijuana was found according to the reports.  He was also charged with Possession of marijuana less than 2 oz. and Tamper/Fabricate Evidence with Intent to Impede Investigation.  Boyd was held on the three counts with bonds set at a total of $17,500.

Domestic Squabble Leads to Drug Arrest on Warrants

Brownwood police were called to Alamo Court at 5:30 pm Friday.  According to police reports, a woman and her girlfriend were driving in the area when an arguement and fight began between them.

Police arrived to find 24-year-old Dorinda Dolorez Soliz having slurred speech, trouble standing up, the odor of alcohol on her person, and a bloody nose according to the report.

Reports state that due to Soliz being intoxicated to a degree that she was a danger to herself and others, she was arrested for public intoxication.  Brownwood Police dispatch advised Soliz was also wanted out of Brown County on two outstanding warrants for her arrest for MTR/Possession of marijuana less than 2 oz. and MTR/Purchase Furnish Alcohol to a Minor.  Soliz was also arrested on these warrants and bond was denied.  Soliz was transported to the Brown County Jail without further incident.

New Years Apartment Robbery

Early New Years Day, Brownwood Police were called to the 1500 block of Magnolia to an apartment that had apparently had a forced entry burglary.  Items missing were:  laptop, Playstation 3 game system, flat screen television, red boxing gloves, a loaded pistol, and a  flashlight.

Burglary Investigated

Early Thursday morning, Brownwood Police responded to a burglary of a building in the 1200 block of Austin Avenue.   It was reported that many cigars were missing and time cards of employees were found in the back parking lot.

Stolen/damaged items included 20 boxes mini cigars, 180 pcs. of Jobs tobacco wrapping paper, 125 Phillies brand blunt cigars, and a 2’x4’ thick piece of glass.

In unrelated incidents:

*Dec. 27th, new gang related spray painted graphitti was reported to Brownwood Police at the underpass at 900 Vine St.  The cost to paint over the graphitti was estimated to be$159.

*Wednesday morning, Police were called to 1600 block of 10th Street  in regards to burglary of a vehicle.  A black JVC CD player was stolen from a Chevy truck.

*Wednesday evening Police responded to report of a purse stolen from a parked car at Hastings.  Items stolen included a blue iPod Nano, a red MP3 player, $3 cash, and the victim’s driver’s license.  Video surveillance caught an unknown male at the front of the car, who appeared to be the “look out”.

*Thursday morning, Police were called to the 500 block of E. Commerce by a hotel guest reporting that his red & white power washer had been stolen out of the back of his truck.

*Friday morning police were called to the 1400 block of Belle Plain where a contractor reported some tools had been stolen.  Items missing were:  Dewalt nail gun, Doufast coil gun, 50 ft. air compressor hose, and a 3 ft. pry bar.
