Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of September along with year-to-date numbers for 2012 and 2013.
Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a department that is more transparent to the public. Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.
Corley said that there were 108 reported crimes in September which is decreased from the previous month. Of these crimes, 50.5% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation. Of note, reports of assaults were down by 16 incidents as compared to the month of August. Reports of larceny theft were also down by 29 incidents in September as compared to the previous month.
There were 33 traffic accidents for September, which included 2 DWI (driving while intoxicated) cases.
Year-to-date, 2013 appears to be continuing a decreasing trend of total crimes than the number reported in 2012. Of those crimes 39.5% were cleared as compared to 27.9% for the same timeframe during the previous year. Of note, larceny theft was down by 106 cases, or 18.1%, as compared to the same timeframe during 2012.See below for the September 2013 and August 2013 crime statistics along with tables of year-to-date 2012 and 2013 statistics of the same time period for comparison. The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police. The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
