Brownwood Police Release September 2012 Crime Statistics

Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of September along with year-to-date numbers for 2011 and 2012.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a more transparent department to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Corley said that there were 114 reported crimes in September which is down by 18 incidents from the previous month.  Of these crimes, 22.8% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation.  Of note, reports of larceny theft were decreased by 19 incidents during the month of September as compared to August.   However, year-to-date statistics for 2012 show that larceny theft reports have increased almost 23.7% over the same time period last year.  Assaults have also increased 24.4%.

DWI arrests are up year-to-date as well with the Brownwood Police reporting 86 this year compared to 66 from January to September of last year.   According to stats, motor vehicle accidents inside the Brownwood city limits were actually decreased by 16.4% year-to-date when compared to 2011 year-to-date.

See below for the August and September 2012 crime statistics along with tables of year-to-date 2012 and 2011 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
