Brownwood Police Release November 2015 Crime Statistics

Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of November along with year-to-date numbers for 2014 and 2015.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a department that is more transparent to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Corley said that there were 82 reported crimes in November which is decreased by 13.7% or 13 counts from the previous month.  Of the total number of crimes 39% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation.  Cases of assault and burglary of a habitation were down 34.2% and 50% respectively.  Also of note, cases of burglary of a habitation were decreased by 12 incidents or 66.7%; however cases of burglary of a building rose by six counts and motor vehicle thefts doubled as compared to the month of October.

There were 39 traffic accidents and no driving while intoxicated arrests reported in the city of Brownwood for November.

2015 continues to have a slightly decreased number of total crimes (year-to-date) than the number reported in 2014 by nearly 11%.  Of note, cases of robbery and theft of motor vehicles were up by 71.4% and 69% respectively.  Cases of burglary of a building were decreased by 26 incidents or 43.3% with no cases of homicide or arson year-to-date.  There was also an increase of rape cases as compared to the same timeframe during 2014.
