Brownwood News – This information is provided as an update to the previous media release related to a shooting incident in the 2600 block of 1st St on Monday May 27, 2019.
As noted in the release, officers were additionally notified that night of potential shooting victims arriving at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center ER. Officers arrived and learned that a 17 year old female sustained a serious gunshot wound to the lower part of her right leg which required her to be care-flighted to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where she remains.
Also at the ER, officers identified 37 year old Jose Miguel Gonzalez and 17 year old Edgar Galicia (Martinez); both of Brownwood. It is believed that these three subjects arrived at the residence on 1st St after a dispute over money which prompted the exchange of gunfire.
The 17 year old male, (Galicia) did sustain a gunshot injury to his right shoulder which was minor. While at the ER, he was treated and released into police custody.
Mr Gonzalez and Mr Galicia were both arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and transported to the Brown County Jail without incident.
This is still the early stages of the investigation and more arrests are possible.
Original Release:
On Monday, May 27, 2019 just before 8:00pm officers with the Brownwood Police Department were dispatched to an address in the 2600 block of 1st St regarding a report of shots fired. As officers were responding, additional information was called in, indicating that someone had been shot
As officers arrived on scene, they were directed to a residence within the block. Officers were able to remove three subjects from the residence and detain them. At this time, these subjects are only being identified as two males and one female ranging in ages of 15 to early 20’s.
While this was occurring, the Brownwood Regional Medical Center ER contacted the police department; stating that potential gunshot victims had arrived at their facility.
Officers on 1st St established a perimeter around the residence and members of the Brownwood Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams teamed up to secure the residence and ensure no other victims were inside.
An investigation then commenced involving the Brownwood Police Department, Early Police Department and the Texas Rangers.
As of this moment, (12:45am, May 28, 2019) two gunshot victims were confirmed at the BRMC Emergency Room while three subjects from the residence were detained for questioning.
All subjects involved in this incident have cooperated with police and are currently speaking with investigators. There is not threat to the community at this time as it relates to this investigation.
