Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of July along with year-to-date numbers for 2014 and 2015.
Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a department that is more transparent to the public. Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.
Corley said that there were 125 reported crimes in July which is increased by 30 counts from the previous month. Of these crimes, 36.8% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation. Of note, cases of burglary of a habitation were increased by 5 incidents or 62.5% and cases of robbery were also increased by 4 counts or doubled as compared to the month of June.
There were 60 traffic accidents and 8 driving while intoxicated arrests in the city of Brownwood for July.
2015 continues to have a slightly decreased number of total crimes (year-to-date) than the number reported in 2014 by 7.6%. Of note, cases of robbery were up by 4 incidents or 80% and cases of assault were decreased by 47 incidents or 20.3%. There was also an increase of rape and burglary of a habitation cases as compared to the same timeframe during 2014.See below for the June and July crime statistics along with tables of year-to-date 2014 and 2015 statistics of the same time period for comparison. The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police. The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
