A Brownwood man remains jailed Monday morning after a fight at a party that led to a stabbing. Brownwood Police released the following statement about the incident and arrest.
Officers with the Brownwood Police Department were dispatched to the 2500 block of Greenway Drive regarding a report of a fight in progress around 12:40 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Upon officer’s arrival, a male subject was discovered lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds. The victim, later identified as 33-year-old Jose Rivera, was transported to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries to his back and torso.
Investigation at the scene revealed that subjects were at 2504 Greenway Drive for a party when a fight broke out between several subjects. Rivera became involved in the fight and was assaulted by 50-year-old Alfredo Villarreal.
Detectives with the Brownwood Police Department Criminal Investigations Division arrived to assist in the investigation. Further information was gathered and a warrant was issued for Villarreal’s arrest.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., officers were patrolling in the same block of Greenway and observed Villarreal exit 2504 Greenway. He was subsequently arrested for the assault and remains in the Brown County Jail on bonds totaling $25,000.
