A Brownwood patrol car crashed into another vehicle Sunday night while in pursuit of a suspect vehicle.
Several officers responded to a call of a dispute Sunday night in the 700 block of Melwood. When officers arrived, a vehicle fled the scene and turned off its headlights according to police reports. Cpl. Johnny Jackson and Officer Art Shannon pursued the vehicle as it headed east on Edwards Street.
The chase continued as the vehicles turned south on W. Chandler and crossed Main Street heading downtown as the suspect vehicle accelerated according to the police report. The police report also indicates that during the pursuit, Cpl. Jackson’s patrol car struck another vehicle at the intersection of E. Chandler and Fisk in downtown Brownwood. The patrol car was damaged and the vehicle that was struck was overturned from the impact. The suspect vehicle escaped as a result of the accident.
Cpl. Jackson and the driver of the other vehicle were both taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to investigate the scene of the accident. Brownwood Police are still investigating the incident and are seeking the driver of the suspect vehicle.
