TopTXCommuterCityLogoBrownwood was recently named one of the best commuter cities in Texas by Obrella.

With an average commute of only 16 minutes, Brownwood was named number six on the best commuter cities list.  82.38% of drivers commute to work alone in Brownwood, 11.07% carpool, 0.55% use mass transit and 1.18% work at home, according to the study.

The Brownwood commune is 16.7 minutes.  The study showed the majority of people commute less than 15 minutes to work,   followed by a second smaller group of commuters traveling 15-29 minutes to their job.

Obrella gave a summary of each city and stated the following about Brownwood.  “Located in the center of Texas, Brownwood is large enough to provide all the amenities you need, yet small enough that you know who your neighbors are. Offering award-winning schools, a low cost of living, and an impressive economic development corporation, Brownwood is a great place to settle if you’re an entrepreneur. Brownwood residents who don’t work for themselves are often employed in manufacturing, administration, or construction related work. Kohler and 3M Company are two of the area’s biggest employers. The fact that it takes 16 minutes to get to work only adds to Brownwood’s appeal.”

Other top commuter cities listed in the top ten were:  Vernon, Plainview, Snyder, Sweetwater, Nacogdoches, Kerrville, College Station, Big Spring, and Abilene.

To determine the rankings, Obrella analyzed traffic data from the 2013 survey released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Considering only Texas cities whose population exceeded 10,000 at the time of this report, Obrella analysts sorted cities by average commute time and used other available data points to help visualize the breakdown of commute types and commute lengths.
