FCCLANationalQualifierTeam2013

Brownwood Middle School FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) members Juli Munoz, Michaela Riley, and Felicity Stokes qualified for nationals at the Focus on the Family STAR (Students Taking Action With Recognition) Event April 9th-13th in Dallas, TX.

The team competed with a 10 minute presentation on this year’s topic: Hunger.  With a focus on, “Child Hunger in the Community,” the team reported on their project, which included a food drive, coming up with balanced diets and snacks, and creating and providing a recipe along with their additional donations to Good Samaritan Ministries and Family Services Center.

The team, instructed by BMS Family Consumer Science Education teacher, Ann Costa, received 2nd place competing as the only middle school team in a field of a reported 30 high school teams, and additionally received 2nd place with their individual Leader Enhancement Opportunity competitions.

This is the first time a BMS team has moved on past the state level, and the students are scheduled to travel to Nashville, TN to compete at the National FCCLA Conference in July.
