Brownwood News – The Brownwood Memorial Day Program will be at 11:00 AM on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2019, at the Central Texas Veterans Memorial in Brownwood. Retired Air Force General Dan Locker will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Retired Navy Commander Jim Looby will give the Memorial Day address. There will be a dedication of two Memorial Day plaques.

The first honors Robert “Cotton” Tuggle, a Brownwood native who was tragically beheaded by the Japanese in World War II.

The second plaque honors the American Legion and Isham Smith, the  first Brown County native killed in World War I and the namesake for American Legion Post 196. Dr Carol Smith, a great niece of Isham Smith, will also speak.

The Central Texas Veterans Memorial honors all veterans, but especially the 259 Brown County veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice from World War I forward.
