Mayor Haynes will recap the city happenings for 2016 and will talk about upcoming projects for the new year. 2015 saw the opening of both United Supermarket and Aldi, leading into big openings for 2016 with Cotton Patch and McAlister’s. The mayor has noted that sales tax growth is key for developing and expanding the city of Brownwood.
After the mayor’s address in 2016, KTXS erroneously reported city planned to “sell” water from Lake Brownwood. Haynes said during his 2016 address the city expected water sales to increase due to the lifting of drought restrictions. The mayor sent out a statement to quell rumors, stating: “Somehow, this has been misinterpreted. We simply expect water sales will return to normal pre-drought levels.”
Due to the incorrect report posted on the news station’s website and social media, Mayor Stephen Haynes received numerous messages from citizens.
‘I do not blame them,’ Haynes said. ‘If I thought someone was going to sell water from Lake Brownwood outside of our community, I would be outraged, too.’
