On Monday, October 28, 2019, at approximately 2:50 pm, officers of the Brownwood Police Department were dispatched to the area of the 200 block of 10th Street regarding a report of a vehicle driving recklessly in the area.

According to the arrest summary, as officers were responding to that call, the caller reported that the vehicle’s driver pointed a pistol at them as he drove by a second time.  The vehicle was reported stopped at the intersection of 10th Street and Center Ave.

Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect vehicle.  Given the threat with a weapon, the officers initiated a felony stop on the vehicle and through the course of detaining the driver, they located a pistol positioned behind the driver’s back; tucked in his jeans.  The subject was detained and identified as 21-year-old Travis Blackstock of Brownwood.

According to the arrest summary, officers spoke with witnesses and the complainant.  Witnesses reported that Blackstock was driving at a high rate of speed and “gunning” his engine.  At one point, a homeowner walked into the roadway and approached the pickup as it was stopped nearby.  The homeowner asked the driver (Blackstock) what he was doing.  At this time, Blackstock gunned the engine and accelerated toward him as if to hit him.  The pickup then spun off down the road and did a U-turn before coming to a stop.

As the pickup was making the U-turn, the homeowner went and retrieved a small baseball bat out of his yard and began walking toward the pickup that was at the end of the block.  As the homeowner got closer to the pickup, he observed Blackstock pull out a handgun and point it at him through the windshield.  The homeowner backed away out of fear.  Blackstock then accelerated toward him a second time and, at the last moment, swerved to miss him.  It was at this point that the homeowner swung his baseball bat and struck the taillight.

As officers initially approached Blackstock, he was outside his pickup replacing a broken taillight with a new one that he coincidentally had in his possession.

Blackstock was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.  According to the Brown County Inmate List, Blackstock was released on bonds on Tuesday, October 29.  Bond on the DWI charge was set at $1,500.  Bond amount on the Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge is $15,000.  Bond amount on the Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon charge is $2,500.

All arrestees are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
