After an investigation by the Brownwood Police Department, 44-year-old Robert Elwood Thornburgh of Brownwood was arrested Thursday on multiple charges of sexual abuse of a child. As of Tuesday afternoon, the suspect remains in the Brown County jail on bonds totaling $235,000.
Thornburgh was arrested on December 22nd by a Brown County Sheriff’s deputy on outstanding warrants with charges of 5 counts of Sexual Assault of a Child; Continuous Sexual Assault of Child Under 15 Years of Age; 2 counts of Indecency with Child by Contact; Interfere with Child Custody; and a parole violation.
An outcry for help from a female juvenile to a counselor in September of 2010 led to warrants being issued for his arrest on the above charges, according to Brownwood Assistant Chief of Police James Fuller. Fuller stated that there are two teenage victims in the case, one of which was impregnated allegedly by Thornburgh.
The two victims were in CPS care in San Antonio in November of this year when Thornburgh picked up one of them and brought her back to Brownwood.
Further evidence may lead to additional charges for Thornburgh, Fuller stated.
