A Brownwood man died Saturday after a one-vehicle accident in Comanche County around 3:05 pm, according to Texas Department of Public Safety.

Jose Hector Zaragoza, 52, of Brownwood was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on U.S. Highway 67, 3.7 miles southwest of Comanche.   Maria Isabel Zaragoza, 50, of Brownwood was taken to Comanche County Medical Center with an incapacitating head injury, according to a DPS news release.

The DPS report states that Mr. Zaragoza was driving a 1986 GMC LL eastbound on U.S Highway 67 and was in the process of passing another eastbound vehicle when his rear tire on the driver’s side blew out. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned, striking a tree, according to the report.

Mr. Zaragoza was reported to have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.  He was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Conine.
