Brownwood News – A Brownwood man remained in Brown County Jail on Friday afternoon on a $1,500 bond after being arrested Thursday for Evading Detention.  A juvenile female was also taken into custody. According to a statement from the Brownwood Police Department, on Thursday, February 27, at approximately 10:00 am, officers were dispatched to the Family Dollar in the 1400 block of Austin Avenue regarding a report of a theft.

Officers learned that the male and female suspects fled the store on foot and were traveling south on a nearby residential street.  Officer Bowman arrived to assist and observed the two suspects walking in the area of Ave H and 1st St.  Officer Bowman attempted to contact the male suspect whom he knew by sight to be 28-year-old Demory Wilson of Brownwood.  Wilson continued to walk from the officer and eventually ran on foot from him and out of sight.

Officer Bowman turned his attention to the female who provided a false name.  While the female was being detained, Wilson ran back into view and ran toward Officer Bowman and grabbed the female in an attempt to free her from Officer Bowman’s grasp.  Officer Bowman, with other officers assisting, was then able to gain control of Wilson and affect a detention on them both.”

Wilson was charged with Evading Detention and arrested at this time.  After the investigation was complete, he was also charged by Citation for Theft under $100.  Wilson was transported to the Brown County Jail without further incident.

The female in question was not suspected of stealing items from the store and only issued a trespass warning for the property.  A communications check revealed a warrant for her arrest for a traffic violation.  She was also transported to the jail.  Later in the evening, she was discovered to have lied about her identity and was positively identified as a runaway juvenile with Directives to Apprehend in another county’s juvenile court.  She was processed accordingly, according to police.

Those arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
