IMG_9925It was a wet and disappointing night in Stephenville for Brownwood Lion fans.  The game had a brief delay getting started Friday night due to the weather, and once it was underway the rain rarely let up soaking the players, field, and fans.

For the Lions, it was a night filled with not only rain, but several mistakes and some key injuries.

Midway in the first quarter, Stephenville intercepts a pass and builds momentum for their first scoring drive of the game.  Stephenville also scored a second  touchdown late in the second quarter with about 4 minutes on the clock.

Brownwood did recover a fumble in the closing minutes of the half, but were unable to convert it into points.  The first half closed out with Stephenville in the lead 14-0.

Head Coach Bob Shipley was very upset multiple times in the first half with the referees regarding some calls made.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Brownwood Lions Quarterback Graylon Brown takes a hit to the left leg as he releases the the ball for a pass.  Brown was taken out for the rest of the game with a knee injury that the coaches and trainers tended to.  #12 Dillon Ellis was also taken out of the game shortly after that with a shoulder injury.

#14 Vance McShan intercepts a pass from Stephenville also early in the 3rd quarter, but Brownwood was unable to convert into any points.

With less than 6 minutes in the third quarter, Stephenville runs in another touchdown.

On the first play of Brownwood’s next drive, the ball is stripped from backup quarterback Mitch Stephen’s hands and is recovered by Stephenville for another touchdown.

With less than 4 minutes in the 3rd quarter, Brownwood fumbles the ball which is recovered by Stephenville.  Their next drive results in their 3rd touchdown of the third quarter.

Brownwood’s Zack Green and Levi Perez both come out of the game before the end with injuries.

The game ended with the Lions being shut out 35-0.

At game’s conclusion, coaches said that Quarterback Graylon Brown was having trouble with the weather prior to his injury.

Coaches are going to assess injuries and review game film starting Saturday to gear up for next week.  The Brownwood Lions play Liberty Hill next Friday at home.
