Said to be one of the best teams in the region, the Snyder Tigers came to Brownwood and defeated the Lions with a strong running game and defense.

In the first half, the Lions gave a good effort, trying to just contain Snyder QB Keenon Ward and keep him from scoring.  Several “must have” Lion plays were converted; however the half was quite a rollercoaster of scoring.

In the fourth play of the game, Brownwood recovers a Snyder fumble which leads to the Lions scoring the first points of the game.

At the half, the Lions were down 14-19 and Lions’ Head Coach Bob Shipley stated that he was pleased from the effort of the kids; however by the second half, momentum changed because of key Brownwood penalties along with mistakes in execution that led to strong disappointment from the coach regarding the game.

“I’m incredibly disappointed in our how we played—too many blown assignments,” stated Shipley.  “As hard as we worked this week and as much as we looked forward to this game, I kind of feel like we gave it away.  I can’t describe how disappointed I am in how many mistakes we continue to make, we’re a high penalty team.  Dropping all those punts, all those mistakes cost us good field position.”

The importance of next week’s game against Sweetwater will be the focus of the team over the next two weeks, as this will be a “do or die” game if the Lions want to make it to the playoffs, according to Coach Shipley.

Brownwood now has a 1-1 district record, 5-3 for the season, and will face Sweetwater at 7:30pm the Mustang Bowl in Sweetwater on October 28th.  October 21st is an open week for Brownwood.

Coach Shipley stated he will use this week to prepare for the game.

“I still think these are great kids and I love them.  I still think they want to win, but there’s not a sense of urgency,” said Shipley.  “We’ll create a sense of urgency in the next two weeks.  We’ll go to the Mustang Bowl and we have to win to get in the playoffs.”
