chinaspringThe Brownwood Lions football team kept their perfect record intact Friday night for homecoming by beating the China Spring Cougars 65-14.  This takes Brownwood to a 5-0 record so far on the season.

The Lions had 434 yards offense with 243 rushing and 191 passing.

Brownwood will travel to Cowboy’s Stadium in Arlington next week where they will face the Fort Worth All-Saints Episcopal in a much talked about game and venue.

Brownwood scoring drives against China Spring included:

Midway in the first quarter, QB Graylon Brown threw a pass to Vance McShan who took it to the 20 yd line.  With 5:43 left in the first quarter,  Brown ran a quarterback keeper to the 6 yd line for a 14 yard play.  With first and goal, Levi Perez ran to make his 3rd touchdown for the year making the score 6-0.  Dillion Ellis kicked the extra point bringing the game to 7-0.

Brownwood’s second possession started with an incomplete pass, then a couple of penalties.  Graylon Brown threw a pass down the sideline that Luke Chastain reached out and grabbed for a 34 yd gain.  The next play, an option with a great fake, allowed Graylon Brown to run into the end zone with a 6 yd carry for the touchdown.  Dillon Ellis again delivers the extra point, making the score 14-0 as the first quarter ended.

The next drive for Brownwood started with a punt return for 24.  A few plays later, Brown again fakes and drives down to the 1 yd line.  With 2nd and goal and 9:05 left in the 2nd quarter, Brown carries for the touchdown.  Dillon Ellis again scores the extra point, bringing the score to 21-0.

6:14 left in the second quarter, China Spring scored their first touchdown, putting points on the board.  Their extra point was good, bringing the score to 21-7.

During Brownwood’s next possession and on 4thand 7, Brownwood’s Cade Johnson scores a 36 yard pass for a touchdown, which ended a 78yd drive.  The extra point was once again good bringing the score to 28-7.

With 2:40 left in the 2ndquarter, Luke Chastain intercepts a China Spring pass and carries for a 28 yd return to the 1 yd line.  This was his 4thinterception of the year.  A handoff to Stehl Ratliff resulted in his 6th touchdown of the year.  Dillon Ellis delivered the extra point, bringing the game to 35-7.

In China Spring’s next possession, the quarterback got sacked making him lose the ball which Brownwood recovered on the 35 yd line.  A few plays later, with only 0:28 left in the second quarter, Brown throws into the endzone to Vance McShan for a 34 yard gain that resulted in the touchdown.  Dillon Ellis kicked a good extra point which made the score 42-7 in the first half.

Brownwood’s first drive of the 3rdquarter totaled 80 yds in 7 plays and lasted 1minute 59 seconds, ending with a 1yd carry for a touchdown by Stehl Ratliff.  Once again Dillon Ellis kicked the extra point and brought the score to 49-7.

The following drive really took shape with a pitch to Derek Longoria who carried for 24 yds.  Ratliff then had a 29-yard gain for another touchdown.  Again, the Ellis extra point is good bringing the score to 56-7 with over 3 minutes left in the third quarter.

China Spring has a high snap into the end zone for a safety which brought the score to 58-7.  China Spring’s kickoff was returned by Derek Longoria for 54 yds.  Mitch Stevens was put in as quarter back and delivered the ball to Cameron Deal who drove 1yd into the endzone for a touchdown.  Again the extra point is good thanks to Dillon Ellis.  With 10:23 in the 3rd quarter, the score was now 65-7.

With less than 0:37 left in the game, China Spring was able to score one more time and get the extra point, which ended the game with a score of 65-14.
